Johnny Dolvik Foreword

I hope that those of you that had your travel plans interrupted by the Icelandic volcano made it home with the minimum of inconvenience. We got back from the 2010 NAB show a little later than we would have liked, but this was outweighed by having had such a great show.

The day before the exhibition opened we held a business partner event in Las Vegas, which was a great success, with a 100% increase in partner attendance from the previous year. And what’s even more important, our partners brought a constant stream of potential customers to our booth throughout the show. In total, the number of visitors to our NAB booth was up 35% on 2009 and literally thousands saw a state-of-the-art demo in which our TVG450 transported 3D video in the All Mobile Video outside broadcast truck on the Sony booth. The TVG450 JPEG2000-based video gateway is an ideal solution for the transport of 3D video over IP/Ethernet. We were also delighted with the interest we experienced from the press and we met with many more journalists and analysts than at previous shows.

As expected, 3D was the hot topic at the show this year and we demonstrated products that address the challenges of throughput, quality and cost-effective contribution in both live and post production settings. Just as at IBC, visitors to our booth complemented us on the quality of the 3D experience delivered in our demo, with many people telling us it was the best quality 3D video on show at NAB. All our new products were well received and there was a lot of interest from across the industry for our IP video transport solutions, video switching and ATSC products. For us the continued increase in importance of IP at NAB is really good news, given that we are pioneers in IP video transport solutions.

I would like to say a big thanks to all of you who visited us at the show and for those who couldn’t make it. I hope this edition of Connector helps bring you up-to-date. Please get in touch if you need any more information or have any ideas on how we could improve our newsletter.
